Dr.Karen HwangB. Sc., D.C., D.I.C.C.P.Chiropractic Doctor, Active Body Chiropractic Clinic Director
Dr. Karen Hwang graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. After graduation, she spent a number of years teaching English in Taiwan before returning to North America to pursue a career in chiropractic.
She graduated summa cum laude from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa in 2005. She was a Presidential scholar and a member of the Pi Tau Delta International Chiropractic Honor Society. She went on to do an associateship in Connecticut for one and a half years. She returned to Canada to open up Active Body Chiropractic in 2008. Dr. Karen has a special interest in pre-natal and pediatric chiropractic care.
She has completed a 3 year post-graduate program through the ICA Council on Chiropractic Pediatrics and is now diplomate certified in clinical chiropractic pediatrics. She is also certified in the Webster In Utero Constraint Technique.
Dr. Karen has extensive training in many chiropractic techniques, most of which use a gentle hands-on approach when treating patients. She is also proficient in instrument and drop-table techniques.
Dr. Karen is an active member of the Canadian Chiropractic Association, Ontario Chiropractic Association, International Chiropractic Association and ICA Council on Chiropractic Pediatrics.
In her free time Dr. Karen enjoys all types of outdoor activities, especially hiking and running.
Dr.Andy SoB.Sc., D.C.Chiropractic Doctor
Dr. Andy graduated from the University of Guelph with a Bachelor of Science degree in biomedical science. He worked as a Pharmaceutical Sales Representative before deciding to change careers to become a Chiropractor. He graduated summa cum laude in 2008 from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, IA. He achieved the distinctions of Salutatorian and Presidential scholar for his class as well as membership into Pi Tau Delta International Chiropractic Honor Society.
After graduation, he returned to Canada and worked as an Exam Doctor in Oakville, Ontario before joining the Active Body Chiropractic Team. Dr. Andy has a special interest in pre-natal and pediatric care. He is currently completing his Fellowship Certification in pediatric and pregnancy care through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) and has achieved his certificate for proficiency in the Webster In Utero Constraint Technique. Dr. Andy is proficient in drop table and instrument adjusting techniques, and has also had extensive training in many gentle hands- on chiropractic techniques.
Mei LiangChiropractic Health Assistant
Mei Liang has been part of the Richmond Hill community for almost 15 years. Mei joined our team in June 2017 as a Chiropractic Health Assistant. With a decade of experience in customer service, Mei delivers excellent service by assisting our doctors in providing patients with the highest standard of care, along with kindness and compassion.
Mei graduated from Seneca College of Applied Arts and Technology with High Honours in the Business Program in 2017. While at Seneca, Mei also volunteered for the S.M.I.L.E program. This was an opportunity to help first year students adjust to college life and assisted in their academic success.
When Mei is not at the clinic helping patients, Mei enjoys the company of her family and her dogs, a Doberman Pincher and a Yorkshire Terrier.
Sally PascoalTechnical Chiropractic Assistant
Sally was born and raised in Portugal. She moved to Canada in 2012 with her family to study. Sally is currently working on her Bachelor degree in Health Studies at York University and is looking forward to further pursue her studies in Medicine.
Sally currently volunteers at Southlake Hospital in Newmarket where she assists patients, nurses and doctors in the after surgery-care. Sally is passionate about health and well-being.
In her spare time, she loves to travel, read, hike and swim. Sally joined the Active Body Chiropractic team in 2017 and she is excited to be part of this vibrant clinic. She values the importance of chiropractic care and is looking forward to assisting the doctors in providing the best care to each and every patient at Active Body Chiropractic.
Susan YangRMTRegistered Massage Therapist
Susan graduated as an MD from Tongji Medical University (in China). After graduation, she worked for over 10 years as a paediatrician at Beijing Friendship Hospital. During this time, she completed the Western Medicine Learning Chinese Medicine Certificate at the School of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Beijing United University and a program of the Academic Experience Heir of the Old Traditional Chinese Medicine Experts by the Ministry of Personnel of China, Ministry of Health of China, and State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine of China with Division Certificate. During her clinical practice, she treated patients by combining Western Medicine and Chinese Medicine (including acupuncture) which enriched her clinical experience.
Since coming to Canada, Susan has become licensed in the following areas: Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Traditional Chinese Medicine and Massage Therapy. She is an active member of the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario as a RMT and also the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario as a R. Ac & R. TCMP. She uses acupuncture skills to reduce pain, reduce stress and help with many conditions such as sciatica, torticollis, headaches, sprains, menopause and insomnia. As a RMT she can do relaxation massage and also perform deep tissue massage by using different massage techniques. During her free time she likes reading and traveling.
Winnie LamRMTRegistered Massage Therapist
Winnie attended the Canadian College of Massage & Hydrotherapy and has been licensed since 2008. While attending college Winnie enrolled in multiple programs through St. Joseph Hospital and Women’s College Hospital in Toronto. Since graduation she has continued her education in Prenatal Massage and Soft Tissue Techniques. Within her practice, she utilizes a variety of deep tissue techniques, swedish massage, myofascial release and trigger point therapy as well as remedial exercise programs to develop flexibility, strength and stability. She is fluent in English and Cantonese.
