Dr. Karen Hwang graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. After graduation, she spent a number of years teaching English in Taiwan before returning to North America to pursue a career in chiropractic.
She graduated summa cum laude from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa in 2005. She was a Presidential scholar and a member of the Pi Tau Delta International Chiropractic Honor Society. She went on to do an associateship in Connecticut for one and a half years. She returned to Canada to open up Active Body Chiropractic in 2008. Dr. Karen has a special interest in pre-natal and pediatric chiropractic care.
She has completed a 3 year post-graduate program through the ICA Council on Chiropractic Pediatrics and is now diplomate certified in clinical chiropractic pediatrics. She is also certified in the Webster In Utero Constraint Technique.
Dr. Karen has extensive training in many chiropractic techniques, most of which use a gentle hands-on approach when treating patients. She is also proficient in instrument and drop-table techniques.
Dr. Karen is an active member of the Canadian Chiropractic Association, Ontario Chiropractic Association, International Chiropractic Association and ICA Council on Chiropractic Pediatrics.
In her free time Dr. Karen enjoys all types of outdoor activities, especially hiking and running.
Edwina EesonChiropractic Health Assistant
Edwina moved to Canada in 2001.
She began working as a Receptionist at a car dealer in Richmond Hill. She later went on to work for a promotional apparel company. In 2004, determined to make a change, she decided to go back to school. Her passion to help people lead her to the medical field. She received her Physiotherapy Assistant certification in 2005. Shortly after graduating she worked at a Toronto clinic for close to 10 years. After exploring many different employment opportunities, Edwina was lead to Active Body Chiropractic.

Stella AlcalenChiropractic Exam Assistant
Stella was born and raised in the Philippines to a family of Engineers and decided to become an Engineer herself. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering in 2004 from the University of San Carlos and soon worked for a few years in the Engineering field but later realized that her true calling was being a Nurse. Following her dreams, she left the Engineering field and studied her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of San Carlos. She later graduated and passed the license exam to become a Registered Nurse in 2010 and had extensive training working in public hospitals in the Philippines.
Stella immigrated with her family to Canada in 2015, taking her dreams with her to someday be able to practice what she loves most, which is providing care to those in need. Her recent experiences in working for a few clinics in the Greater Toronto Area allowed her to enhance her skills in caring for patients, problem solving and attention to detail. Combined with these skills and her experience in nursing, Stella hopes to provide assistance to Dr. Karen of Active Body Chiropractic and its patients with the utmost care and compassion.
In her free time, Stella loves to read books and watch Korean drama TV series.
Susan YangRMTRegistered Massage Therapist
Susan graduated as an MD from Tongji Medical University (in China). After graduation, she worked for over 10 years as a paediatrician at Beijing Friendship Hospital. During this time, she completed the Western Medicine Learning Chinese Medicine Certificate at the School of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Beijing United University and a program of the Academic Experience Heir of the Old Traditional Chinese Medicine Experts by the Ministry of Personnel of China, Ministry of Health of China, and State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine of China with Division Certificate. During her clinical practice, she treated patients by combining Western Medicine and Chinese Medicine (including acupuncture) which enriched her clinical experience.
Since coming to Canada, Susan has become licensed in the following areas: Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Traditional Chinese Medicine and Massage Therapy. She is an active member of the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario as a RMT and also the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario as a R. Ac & R. TCMP. She uses acupuncture skills to reduce pain, reduce stress and help with many conditions such as sciatica, torticollis, headaches, sprains, menopause and insomnia. As a RMT she can do relaxation massage and also perform deep tissue massage by using different massage techniques. During her free time she likes reading and traveling.
Winnie LamRMTRegistered Massage Therapist
Winnie attended the Canadian College of Massage & Hydrotherapy and has been licensed since 2008. While attending college Winnie enrolled in multiple programs through St. Joseph Hospital and Women’s College Hospital in Toronto. Since graduation she has continued her education in Prenatal Massage and Soft Tissue Techniques. Within her practice, she utilizes a variety of deep tissue techniques, swedish massage, myofascial release and trigger point therapy as well as remedial exercise programs to develop flexibility, strength and stability. She is fluent in English and Cantonese.
